Mahouš: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Mahouš is located on the southwestern edge of Zbudovské Blata. In the village and its surroundings, evidence of architectural history combines with distinctive landscape features and a signposted cycle path.

Landscape

In the immediate vicinity of Mahouš lies Mužský, which is considered a mountain. Skalka and Vrata, which are also considered mountains, are located in the vicinity of Mahouš. Na Štumpíru [Hlavatce u Českých Budějovic], which is considered a hill, is also located nearby. In the wider regional area lies Chlumany, which is considered an ancient site.

Architectural heritage and history

Mahouš is documented as property of Zlatá Koruna Monastery around the year 1300. An illustrative architectural detail is Forge No. 35, which is connected to a residential building and whose gable was designed in the Blata architectural style. Farmstead No. 26 is a protected cultural monument. At Farmstead No. 5, the longitudinal layout was created by joining two buildings that originally had their gables facing the street.

On the western side of the village green stands a Gothic stone wayside shrine. There is also a Baroque niche chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary on the road to Němčice.

Cycle path and village life

The signposted educational cycle route “Historická krajina Netolicko” runs through Mahouš, passes the forge as one of its attractions, and includes 16 stations with information panels. The tractor gathering in Mahouš features several dozen tractors, including historic models, other agricultural machinery, and ploughing demonstrations.
