History
The first written record of Balkova Lhota dates from 1523. The village probably originated as early as the 14th century under the name Včelákova Lhota.
There is a chapel in the village square of Balkova Lhota. A small fortress in Balkova Lhota, mentioned in 1587, had an upper floor made of wood. The former fortress has not survived; the building in which the surrounding walls of the original fortress had been preserved was demolished and replaced by a new structure. The former fortress was protected by two ponds and a moat.
Landscape

Trails
A marked hiking trail belonging to the Čertovo břemeno Greenways system runs through the area of Balkova Lhota. The hike “Na Borotín s K. H. Máchou” starts at Balkova Lhota railway station and ends at Chotoviny railway station. In the wider regional area, it runs via Kostelec and Pikov and reaches the ruins of Starý zámek. Cycle route No. 1154 from Jistebnice to Tábor also passes through the area.

Balkova Lhota railway station is located on line 201 from Tábor to Ražice, which continues to Strakonice. The station building or passenger shelter at Balkova Lhota railway station is accessible to people with disabilities.
