Nekmíř: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Nekmíř, the Jan Žižka Battle Memorial commemorates the 1419 battle. The monument was unveiled on July 28, 2017; in this battle, Jan Žižka used wagons as fortifications for the first time. The history of Nekmíř is associated with the first documented use of wagons as fortifications in the Bohemian region. This was an improvisation, not yet the use of classic heavy war wagons.

History

In the center of the village of Nekmíř stands the Chapel of St. Anne, dating from the 19th century. The Nekmíř Chateau complex includes the monumental central palace of the medieval fortress, which corresponds to the northern wing of the chateau complex. Nekmíř is also home to a statue of St. John of Nepomuk dating from the second quarter of the 18th century.

Landscape and Nature

Nekmíř lies in the Plaská pahorkatina geomorphological area, which forms the central part of the Plzeňská pahorkatina. The landscape around the village is predominantly characterized by mixed forests; among the coniferous trees, pine is dominant.

The natural area includes the Bažantnice Nature Reserve. It comprises a valuable mixed-forest complex with rich herbaceous undergrowth and a stream floodplain landscape. Plot No. 1381/1 lies northwest of Nekmíř on the boundary of the Bažantnice Nature Reserve and partially extends into it.

Activities

A marked local cycle route runs through Nekmíř. During a walk in the forests around Nekmíř, you may come across pits that recall the brief period of coal mining in the 19th century. The Žižka Memorial is freely accessible year-round and can be reached via a dirt track between the new buildings of Nekmíř.
