Nature

The local biocentre LBC 69 “Srubské mokřiny” covers 6.17 hectares in the cadastral area of Sruby. The wetland of the same size is a habitat of the protected snail Lymnea lagostis, which is unique in the East Bohemian region; its vegetation composition is secondary and close to nature.

The “Končinský a Podedvorní rybník” biotope centre covers 18.21 hectares in the cadastral area of Sruby and lies south of the settlement of Hluboká. It consists of two ponds with species-rich banks and a pronounced littoral zone and is an important breeding area for waterbirds.

The “Rutník” biotope centre covers 17.66 hectares in the cadastral area of Sruby. It is located at Rutník Pond, next to high-quality waterlogged meadows.

Culture and History

The memorial to those who fell in the First World War in Sruby stands in the village square. The monumental structure has a rectangular ground plan made of dressed granite blocks; three granite blocks engraved with the names of the fallen are designed as open books.

A granite grave for the victims of a death transport on 24 January 1945 is located in the local cemetery in Sruby. The grave commemorates seven prisoners from Auschwitz concentration camp whose names are unknown.

The Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Sruby was built in 1877–1878 in the historicist style on the site of an older Gothic church. It is a branch church of the Roman Catholic parish of Choceň; services are held there once a month.

Transport

Sruby railway station is served by line 010 between Kolín and Česká Třebová. There is no ticket office at the station; tickets are sold on the train.

Cycling

Cycle route 4230 from Vysoké Mýto to Sudslava runs via Šnakov, Slatina, Sruby, Choceň, Běstovice, Skořenice, Hradiště and Koldín.
