Pustina: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pustina lies in a small depression at an altitude of 473 metres. The village is mostly situated below the level of the surrounding terrain and only becomes visible shortly before arrival.

Landscape and Views

The surroundings of Pustina include several elevations of different types: Jarošov Mountain is located near Pustina. Farářství Hill [Střemošice] and (Horní role [Leština]) Hill are in the immediate vicinity, while Řetová Mountain lies in the wider regional area.

A footpath from Pustina southwards towards Řepníky leads to a terrain step called Poklona above Střemošice. From there, views open out over the Českomoravská vrchovina and the Železné hory. The highest point of Střemošická stráň near the Poklona column also offers views of the Skutečsko and Prosečsko granite pluton, the Cretaceous cliffs, and Košumberk Castle.

History and Local Culture

Settlement in Pustina began towards the end of the 17th century with several farmsteads established during the clearing of the forest. The Pustina bell tower was built in 1921 and designed in the form of a chapel, although it always served a secular purpose. The chronicle of Pustina was written by Josef Vítek until 1939.

On Poklona south of Pustina stands a three-sided Baroque column of the Holy Trinity dating from the first half of the 18th century.

Library and Gallery

Pustina has a public library with public internet access. The Bibliotéka Čeňka Mlíky at Pustina 45 specialises in Czech literature and the book culture of the 19th century and includes a gallery on the ground floor of a two-storey building with an area of 160 square metres.
