The character of Těchonín is particularly clearly reflected in two landscape features: the Tichá Orlice flows from Celné through the lower part of Těchonín onward towards Sobkovice, while the unforested Stanovnický Hill offers views over the surrounding landscape.

Sacred sites and local heritage

The Church of Saint Margaret in Těchonín was built in 1704 on the site of an earlier wooden church. The church contains an altarpiece created in 1862 by the painter Josef Vorlíček, depicting Saint Margaret killing a dragon.

Next to the cemetery in Těchonín, a monument commemorates 104 men and women of Greek or Macedonian origin who are buried there. In the Celné district of Těchonín, the Celné Cross bears the year 1790. The Celné Chapel was also built there in 1825; it has an onion-shaped dome with a lantern for the bell and is dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk.

The local customs also include the revived tradition of the Těchonín Masopust procession, which has existed since 2001.

Trails, winter and nature

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Těchonín through the Čerňovice Valley to Suchý vrch. In winter, groomed cross-country ski trails in Těchonín can be used for excursions into the surrounding area. The preserved nature around Těchonín includes extensive forests and scenic landscapes.

Bouda and the history of fortification

The Bouda Artillery Fortress has been listed as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1995 and is located in a wooded mountain massif above Těchonín, Lichkov and Dolní Boříkovice. Tours of the Bouda Artillery Fortress include exhibitions on the army, national defence and Czechoslovak fortifications.

The Bouda Fortress contains a protected wintering site for nine bat species. The Bouda Artillery Fortress can be reached from Těchonín railway station via a green-marked hiking trail; the route is 6.5 km long.
