History and Architectural Heritage

The first written mention of Krmelín dates back to 9 January 1447. According to the feudal record of 1447, Krmelín’s subsequent history remained permanently linked to the history of Paskov.

The oldest stone cross in Krmelín stands on Světlovská Street next to Road I/58 and dates from 1828. The Lyčka Chapel on Proskovická Street dates from 1870. The Brožův Cross is an iron cross set on a sandstone pedestal with late Classicist ornamentation; the year 1858 is engraved on the back of the pedestal.

Construction of the Church of St John and Paul in Krmelín began in 1895. It was completed and solemnly consecrated on 1 July 1900 by P. Špička, the dean of Ostrava. The church is a single-nave longitudinal building with a gabled roof and a prismatic tower with a pyramid roof aligned with the axis of the façade.

Landscape and Trails

At 332 m above sea level, Krmelínský kopec is the highest point in the cadastral area of the municipality of Krmelín. The summit, with its cross, offers views of Ostrava and the Beskids.

The 66-kilometre Radhošť Trail leads from Bělský les in Ostrava via Stará and Nová Bělá, Krmelín, Mošnov, Příbor, Mniší, Tichá and Frenštát to Pustevny or Radhošť. A green-marked hiking route also passes through Krmelín.

Krmelín can be reached by train via the nearest stations in Paskov, Frýdek-Místek or Ostrava, and has bus connections to Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek.
