Hukvaldy: Holiday apartments and houses

The Hukvaldy game preserve is located around the ruins of Hukvaldy Castle. It covers 440 ha; an area of 220 ha is designated as a European protected area.

Nature

Hradní vrch Hukvaldy was designated a natural monument in 1999. The 77 ha protected area preserves beech stands and the landscape design of the historic game preserve.

The Hradní vrch educational trail is a 2 km circular route from the square in Hukvaldy through the gate of the game preserve to the castle ruins and back. Fallow deer and mouflons can be observed in the Hukvaldy game preserve, which is open year-round.

Culture

The Hukvaldy game preserve is home to a bronze statue of the vixen Bystrouška. It was erected in June 1959 to commemorate the premiere of Janáček’s opera “Příhody lišky Bystroušky” (“The Cunning Little Vixen”).

The Leoš Janáček Memorial preserves the reception room, bedroom and kitchen in the condition they were in during Janáček’s lifetime. Hukvaldy Castle serves as a centre of cultural life. Its grounds and the adjoining game preserve host the international Janáček’s Hukvaldy music festival every year.

The Church of Saint Maximilian in Hukvaldy can be visited; Leoš Janáček played the organ there. Hukvaldy Castle is open to the public from April to October.

Paths and discoveries

The 6001 “Hukvaldy–Kopřivnice–Příbor” cycling route is 9.5 km long and suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes. It provides cyclists with access to Větřkovice Reservoir from the direction of Hukvaldy and Příbor.

The educational circular trail “Leoš Janáček očima dětí” is 8.3 km long and has 13 information panels about Leoš Janáček, Hukvaldy and Dolní Sklenov. Most of the trail can be covered by bicycle or with a sports stroller.

Hukvaldský Stonehenge is a rest area at a weir with symbolically arranged stones connected with the work of Leoš Janáček, as well as an acoustic interactive feature called Dendrafon.

Tropic Hukvaldy includes an Asian garden, tropical greenhouses with exotic plants and animals, and a seasonal exhibition of live butterflies.

The “Okolo Hukvald” route starts and ends at the birthplace of Leoš Janáček and is 8.6 km long.

A direct bus connection from Ostrava stops at “Hukvaldy, hotel”. At Hostinec U Štamgastů, you can taste local Hukvaldy yeast beer.
