Culture and History in Býkov-Láryšov

The cultural monuments of Býkov-Láryšov include the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. It is located in the Býkov district and was built there in 1727.

Býkov was founded in 1238. The village name derives from cattle breeding, which was the settlers’ most important livelihood at the time of its foundation. Láryšov was founded in 1793 on the site of a former pond. The first school in Býkov-Láryšov was founded between 1780 and 1790.

Láryšov is home to a chapel dating from 1848; the fire station dates from 1921. Beekeeping was also historically very popular in Býkov-Láryšov. Those interested in culture can therefore focus on religious buildings, community facilities, the founding of the villages, and a traditional activity.

Districts and Watercourses

Býkov-Láryšov consists of the two districts of Býkov and Láryšov, which lies two kilometres away. The municipality’s cadastral area is bordered by the Čížina and the Hájnický potok. The Čížina flows south of Býkov-Láryšov, while the Hájnický potok flows through Láryšov.

The Černý potok rises in Býkov. Two ponds were created near the municipality along the Hájnický potok. The ponds lie on the same watercourse that flows through Láryšov, while the Černý potok originates in the Býkov district. The area around the municipality therefore combines flowing waters with man-made ponds.

Hills and Natural Swimming Area

Above Býkov, the Ovčák hill reaches an elevation of 486 metres. Above Láryšov lies Rybničná hill, which is 20 metres higher than Ovčák.

Southeast of Býkov lies the Pochev reservoir, which is used as a natural swimming area. As a natural swimming area, Pochev is a different landscape feature from the Ovčák and Rybničná hills and the ponds along the Hájnický potok. This gives you a choice of elevated viewpoints above the districts and a body of water southeast of Býkov for a day in nature.

Cycling Routes and Marked Trails

Býkov-Láryšov has developed cycling routes and marked hiking trails. One local cycling route leads west from the municipality into the Hrubý Jeseník area. A second cycling route runs east via a border crossing near Úvalno to Poland. The eastbound route is thus designed as a connection via a border crossing and onward to Poland.

Hiking Trails with Different Destinations

The green-marked hiking trail leads north from the municipality, passing the Hájnický ponds and the Šelenburk castle ruins at an elevation of 423 metres, and continues to Krnov. Another green-marked hiking trail runs east towards Úvalno near a forest lodge.

When planning a hike, you can choose according to your destination: Krnov lies along the northbound route, while Úvalno lies along the eastbound one. The Hájnický ponds and the Šelenburk castle ruins are on the way to Krnov, while the forest lodge is near the route to Úvalno. This provides two different directions for hikes starting from the municipality.
