Culture and History
Sovinec Castle was built at the end of the 13th century and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. From April to October, it hosts cultural events and invites visitors to various events every year.
Jiříkov itself also has a special connection to film history: Jiříkov and its inhabitants play a leading role in Bohdan Sláma’s film “Divoké včely”. Advent concerts are also held in Jiříkov. The historicist church in Kněžpole was built in 1908–1909. The church in Těchanov has not been functional for quite some time; at the same time, it is being damaged by moisture.
Art and Special Places
At the Pradědova Gallery, a local woodcarver exhibits carved sculptures. The statue of the ruler of the Altvater Mountains, the forefather Praděd, is also located there. It is 10.4 metres high and weighs 15 tonnes. The grounds of the Pradědova Gallery also include an 8-hectare fallow deer farm, which is particularly suitable for children.
In Křížov, the former chapel now serves as a gallery and souvenir shop under the name “Galerie v Kapli sv. Františka”.
