History and Culture

The Jewish cemetery in Osoblaha is considered one of the oldest and most significant Jewish monuments in all of Silesia. A total of 313 tombstones have been preserved there; most date from the 18th century and the first half of the 19th century.

The Cemetery Church of St. Nicholas is a Baroque cemetery church built between 1756 and 1766 and is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. On the site of the former Church of St. Mary Magdalene stood a deanery church whose origins date back to the third quarter of the 13th century; it had a Renaissance tower from the early 17th century and a valuable Gothic portal with foliate reliefs.

The preserved sections of Osoblaha’s town walls are freely accessible all year round and are also the only partially preserved reminder of the medieval town fortifications. The Chapel of St. Valentine and St. Blaise stands on Pavlovická Street opposite house no. 19; it contains a relief of the Crucifixion.

Nature

The Velký Pavlovický rybník Nature Reserve lies on the boundary of the cadastral areas of Hlinka, Osoblaha and Slezské Pavlovice and is an important refuge for the local birdlife.

The Džungle Nature Reserve is a remnant of floodplain forest with old trees and wetlands between the Hraniční potok and Prudnik rivers.

Railway and Trails

Osoblaha is the terminus of the Osoblažská narrow-gauge railway. The Třemešná–Osoblaha narrow-gauge railway is an operational line on which nostalgic steam trains and historic trains run.

Cycle route 6116 passes through Osoblaha and crosses the border into Poland here. The Hotzenplotz Raiders Trail for families with children leads from Osoblaha railway station to the station in Bohušov; it includes a landscape window for taking photographs and a game card available at Osoblaha railway station.
