Dvorce can be discovered through its distinctive buildings and clearly datable traces of its history. On a hill at the northeastern edge of the town stands the Church of St Giles, a prominent landmark. The church contains a Romanesque core and was remodelled in the mid-18th century to a design by Andrea Altomonte.
Culture and history
The first written mention of Dvorce dates back to 1339. In 1363, Dvorce received its first town privileges from Vojtěch ze Šternberka. The town was founded by the Lords of Šternberk on an old trade route from Olomouc to Silesia.
On the square in Dvorce, the Neptune Fountain with its statue of Neptune is a prominent feature. St Catherine's Chapel is a single-nave cemetery chapel built by Lutherans around the middle of the 16th century. Since 1996, it has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
The local history also includes the former narrow-gauge railway between Dvorce and Moravský Beroun, which opened in 1908 and was closed in 1934.
The currently temporarily closed Dvorce Museum was established on 5 September 1999 in a two-storey Empire-style former vicarage dating from the mid-19th century. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the painter Ferdinand Krumholz (1810–1878), who came from Dvorce. The museum also contains objects documenting the history of the municipality.
Nature and cycle paths
Velký Roudný, a former volcano, is located in nearby Roudno. A 20-metre-high observation tower stands on nearby Velký Roudný. Marked cycle routes can be used around Dvorce.
