Úvalno: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Úvalno combines the Hans Kudlich Lookout Tower on Strážiště with a natural swimming biotope, wet meadows, the Opava River and a number of historic sites. The lookout tower was built according to the design of architect Oskar von Felgel, is 21.5 metres high and was opened on 21 September 1913. It was erected on Strážiště near Úvalno as a memorial to Hans Kudlich. Group visits can be arranged at least one day in advance outside the stated opening hours.

Views and water

Plovárna Na Výsluní is a natural swimming biotope on the grounds of the former open-air swimming pool below the Hans Kudlich Lookout Tower in Úvalno. It includes a swimming area, a non-swimmer area and a paddling pool; it also has a water slide. Visitors have access to sanitary facilities, outdoor showers and changing rooms.

Nature and landscape

Úvalenská louka consists of wet meadows with a swampy or bog-like character. The Opava also flows through Úvalno as a preserved natural watercourse with riparian vegetation. It is of supraregional ornithological and zoological importance.

Culture and local history

The former rectory has been converted into the Retro Museum. The exhibition there presents living spaces with a kitchen, a bathroom, a children's room with toys from the 1950s and a formal living room. St. Nicholas Church is a brick, longitudinally rectangular, single-nave Gothic church from the second half of the 14th century that was remodelled in the Baroque style after 1762. The birthplace of Hans Kudlich in Úvalno is a memorial to a significant personality.

Construction components and parts of the furnishings of a mill have been preserved in the Rychta. The municipal railway station also has a distinctive historical feature: a carriage called Hytlák stands there with a stove, a small kitchen and a type of sanitary area.

Routes and orientation

The renovated former railway station building in Úvalno operates as an information centre with sanitary facilities and a café. The building dates from 1875 and is one of the few half-timbered buildings in the region. On the Via Czechia – Stezka Slezskem itinerary, the route continues from Úvalno railway station along a signposted cycle route.

The “Úvalno–Rychta” section is also listed in the same itinerary; for the municipality of Úvalno, it mentions a museum, a restaurant, food supplies, and bus and train connections.
