Hošťálkovy preserves the historic structure of a forest-strip village.
Culture and Townscape
In the northern part of Hošťálkovy stands the single-nave Baroque Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, built between 1790 and 1792. Its projecting western tower façade is crowned by an onion dome. Hošťálkovy Castle is exceptionally well preserved in the Bruntál District and is listed as a cultural monument. In its courtyard stands a quatrefoil-shaped fountain that originally carried a cast-iron statue of Bacchus; today, the statue is displayed inside the castle.
A considerable number of valuable folk-architecture buildings have been preserved in Hošťálkovy. Before 1564, Vraclávek was resettled by colonists from the area around Wrocław, probably woodcutters. The Skrbenský tomb is a regionally rare surviving aristocratic tomb and is associated with the formerly landowning Skrbenský family. It consists of two low marble sarcophagi for Kryštof and Kateřina Skrbenský dating from 1686, which stand in the cemetery by the parish church.
The Museum of Historical Washing Machines and Washboards in Hošťálkovy–Vraclávek preserves a unique collection of around 160 washing mechanisms dating from 1850–1950.
History and Archaeology
Luginsland is designated as a significant archaeological site in the cadastral area of Vraclávek, part of the municipality of Hošťálkovy. The remains of Luginsland Castle come from a castle probably founded around the mid-13th century as a colonization outpost and are surrounded by a rampart and ditch. Along the Kobylí potok between Staré Purkartice and Hošťálkovy, a medieval and early modern archaeological area in the southwest of the cadastral territory preserves the field structure of a settlement probably dating from the colonization period.
Nature and Trails
The built-up area of Hošťálkovy lies in the valley of the Kobylí potok, which divides the settlement area into two parts. The protected zone of the Krasovský kotel Nature Reserve extends into the cadastral areas of Vraclávek and Staré Purkartice. Two marked hiking trails and an educational trail pass through the municipality of Hošťálkovy.
Vraclávek has an extensive system of mountain bike trails called Traily Kotel. The 79-kilometre Krnovská padesátka cycle route also passes through Hošťálkovy and Vraclávek. A path to the Burkvíz castle rampart is part of the Městský turistický okruh; the remains lie between the settlement of Burkvíz near Město Albrechtice and the municipality of Vraclávek.
Geographical Location
Public transport in Hošťálkovy is provided exclusively by buses. The Krásné Loučky–Karlovice road crosses the territory of Hošťálkovy from west to east.
