Starý Bydžov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Starý Bydžov combines traces of its history with a cycling route. In the village, you will encounter the Kostel sv. Prokopa Church, a hoard and the Jasan u Starého Bydžova ash tree.

Culture

In the centre of Starý Bydžov, the Kostel sv. Prokopa Church stands at a crossroads leading towards Stará Skřeněř, Nový Bydžov, Hlušice and Křičov. It was originally a Romanesque building dating from around 1200. Eight 16th-century tombstones have also been preserved at the church.

A monument to Jan Malát stands in the village square. It consists of three sandstone blocks with a commemorative plaque. Jan Malát was born in Starý Bydžov on 16 June 1843.

The hoard of the Únětice culture is also part of the village’s history. It was discovered in 1893 during drainage work in the northwestern part of the cadastral area. The find comprises eight disc-shaped earrings and is considered the largest ensemble of this type of jewellery found in the Czech Republic.

Nature

The Jasan u Starého Bydžova ash tree grows in the southeast of Starý Bydžov, to the left of the road to Nový Bydžov. Its trunk circumference is 660 centimetres. It is considered one of the five largest ash trees in the Czech Republic.
