Kratonohy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the central area of Kratonohy, the complex of the Church of St. James the Elder is situated on a slight elevation. Its origins are Gothic; from 1707 to 1710, it was remodelled in the Baroque style.

Culture and History

A Baroque château that still exists today was built on the grounds of the former Kratonohy fortress under the Kinský family. During the 1775 peasant uprising, the château was burned down by peasants; later alterations compromised its architectural character.

Traditional small-farm homesteads with farm buildings and preserved barns have been retained in Kratonohy. The Masopust festival is also traditionally held here as a recurring cultural event.

Some surviving songs by Jiří Volný were published in Hradec Králové in 1822 under the title “Jiřího Volného písně veselé”.

The wooden bell tower in Michnovka is a post-built structure with a small bell in the fork of a tree branch and a conical metal roof; as a fire bell tower, it is one of the local cultural monuments.

Landscape and Recreation

North of Kratonohy, the Bystřice flows in two channels: an old river channel and a new regulated one.

The Písníky near Obědovice are used for seasonal recreation; part of the area lies within the municipal territory of Kratonohy.

Roads

A Class II road runs through the southern built-up area of Kratonohy. It originally carried the number 11 and was designated 611 after renumbering.

Road III/32313 connects Kratonohy with the district of Michnovka and leads towards Pravy.

KČT cycle route 4199 runs through Kratonohy along a paved municipal road and then turns onto a paved farm track along the Bystřice towards Roudnice.
