Butoves: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Butoves is located in the southeastern, relatively flat part of the Jičín Hills. The varied surroundings lie approximately 250 to 290 meters above sea level; at the southern edge, meadows and fields merge directly into the Dubový Forest (Doubí).

Nature

To the north of Butoves lie the Tuřský les mixed forest and the Holubí Forest (Holubův). To the west, the Runšov Forest stretches beyond the fields. Hluboký Pond lies between the municipalities of Kovač, Butoves, and Třtěnice.

There are three other named forest ponds in the Butoves area: Hluboký, Strašidlo, and Náklaďák. Náklaďák was formerly also called Nákladní or Nakládka. During year-round walks in the area around Butoves, you can observe a large group of birds of prey.

In 2008, the “Kovačské Modré Žáby” project was carried out at Hluboký Pond to preserve the population of the rare agile frog.

Cycling Route

The “Za Rumcjasem” cycling route runs from Třtěnice through Butoves and onward to Tuř. It is suitable for road bikes or trekking bikes and follows paved roads.

History and Culture

The history of Butoves dates back to the “Nová Lhota” farmstead, founded in 1392 by the owners of the Veliš estate; the first written mention of the municipality dates from 1395. The present name “Butoves” was adopted in 1773 for the rebuilt village. The year 1784 is considered the founding year of the modern municipality of Butoves.

In 1888, a steam-powered sawmill was established next to Butoves railway station. On January 6, 1888, Antonín Zajíc, Josef Lemberk, and František Šoltys decided to found the Tyl amateur theater association; its first play was performed in Butoves on December 16, 1888. Between 1895 and 1921, the Tyl amateur theater association performed a total of 20 plays in Butoves.

Railway

Butoves railway station is an intermediate operating point with three tracks and a siding on the line from Ostroměř to Jičín. The station within the municipality of Butoves was built and commissioned together with the branch line of the Austrian North-West Railway (ÖNWB) from Ostroměř to Jičín on December 17, 1871.
