Sobotka: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Sobotka lies on the edge of the Bohemian Paradise. Between the castle, folk architecture, literature and protected landscapes, a multifaceted picture of the town emerges.

Culture and History

Humprecht Castle was built by the Italian architect Carlo Lurago between 1666 and 1668 as a summer and hunting residence for Count Humprecht Jan Czernin von Chudenitz. Its elliptical floor plan and the crescent moon crowning the roof distinguish the castle from other aristocratic residences. The viewing gallery on the second upper floor is 13 metres high and offers views of the distinctive landscape features of the Bohemian Paradise.

Šolcův statek, dating from 1811, is one of the best-preserved examples of folk architecture in the Bohemian Paradise. The Karla Samšiňáka Gallery is located on the farmstead.

The Fráňa Šrámek Museum presents a modern exhibition that combines literature, space and a multimedia experience. The exhibition includes the writer's original study, his personal library and a Hall of Poetry. The museum is located directly on the square, in Sobotka's municipal information centre.

Another special feature is the church Kostel sv. Maří Magdaleny s farou, with its extraordinary late Baroque interior furnishings from the workshop of the Jelínek sculptors from Kosmonosy.

The Údolí Plakánek educational trail leads through the part of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area belonging to Sobotka.

Střelečská hůra and Přivýšina are mountains in the surroundings of Sobotka. Tábor is a mountain in the wider regional surroundings of Sobotka. Valdštejn is a church in the surroundings of Sobotka. The hill Na Vršku [Sobotka-Spyšova] is also located nearby.
