A prominent testament to Libáň’s history is the Kostel sv. Ducha. The Baroque building, which Josef Hager had constructed between 1755 and 1757 on the site of an earlier wooden chapel, has been protected as a cultural monument since 1964. Inside are rare Baroque organs, which were completely renovated in 1998. The statue of sv. Josefa dates from 1783 and was moved from the square to the Kostel sv. Ducha in 1925.
Culture and History
On náměstí Svobody stands the monument to Mistr Jan Hus, which was unveiled on 6 July 1925. It was based on a design by prof. Ladislav Šaloun and created by the sculptor František Bílek. The monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský was erected in Libáň in 1909. It was designed and created by the sculptor Jaroslav Jedlička from Vojice.
Landscape and Nature
Above Libáň, at Na Horách, stands the Libáňská borovička, a memorial tree that is more than 300 years old. It is regarded as a symbol of Libáň. The Libáň hill [Libáň] is located nearby. The surroundings of Libáň also include Přivýšina Mountain, Střelečská hůra Mountain and U Borku Mountain [Záhornice u Městce Králové]. In the wider regional area around Libáň lies Valdštejn Church.
Pilský rybník is located on the Hasinský potok. The body of water covers 50 hectares and serves as a nesting and gathering site for birds.
Events and Trails
The “Libáňský hudební máj” music festival was founded in 2001 to continue the tradition of the event of the same name. A long-distance hiking trail marked in red also passes through Libáň.
