Horní Nová Ves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The 13-kilometre Kamennou hůrou educational trail runs through Horní Nová Ves and features eleven stops. It combines varied natural scenery, authentic examples of folk architecture, geological features and places associated with local legends.

Nature and landscape

The Kamenná hůra Nature Reserve lies near Horní Nová Ves, has been protected since 1956 and preserves what is known as a bare beech forest. The Údolí Javorky Natural Monument encompasses the cadastral area of Horní Nová Ves. It protects the meandering course of the Javorka stream and marshy meadows with protected plant species.

The mountains of Maxinec (MLázovický chlum), Tábor and Přivýšina lie in the surroundings of Horní Nová Ves. The Na Zámcích hill [Lužany] is located in the immediate vicinity of Horní Nová Ves.

History and culture

During the Thirty Years’ War, Horní Nová Ves was permanently incorporated into the Bělohrad estate. Dražná was the fortress located in Horní Nová Ves. On the left bank of the Javorka, at the boundary between the cadastral areas of Horní Nová Ves and Prostřední Ves, lie the remains of a medieval fortress that has disappeared. It is known by the names Dražná and Na Drahách and is first documented for the years 1400 and 1396, respectively.

A memorial plaque on the birthplace of Emil Buchar at Horní Nová Ves 68 commemorates the important Czech astronomer. Buchar discovered the first Czech minor planet, named it after his mother Tynka and used observations of Sputnik 1 in 1957 to determine the Earth’s flattening more precisely.

Horní Nová Ves has a renovated crucifix monument; there is also a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Numerous preserved log cabins can be found along the Javorka in Horní Nová Ves. The churches of Lázně and Valdštejn are located in the wider regional area around Horní Nová Ves.

On the way

The Jižní okruh z Nové Paky is described as an easy cycling tour of approximately 17 kilometres for mountain bikes or trekking bikes, reaching Horní Nová Ves on an unmarked road at kilometre 11.
