Podhradí U Jičína: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Podhradí lies on the slopes of Veliš. The Loreto Chapel near Podhradí was built in 1694 based on a design by Jean Baptiste Mathey. The Loreto near Podhradí is an integral part of Mariánská zahrada, a contiguous Baroque landscape composition that František Josef Schlik had gradually created.

Culture and History

From the Loreto Chapel near Podhradí, it is possible to reach the roof through a roof hatch and walk across its entire surface; from there, the view extends over the former Schlik estate and the Jičín Basin.

The Chapel of the Guardian Angels in Podhradí was built in 1720 in the Baroque style as a hexagonal structure vaulted by a dome, probably based on a design by J. Santini. The chapel is to be made accessible to the public during liturgical events and upon request.

The Krista Pantokratora (Eupatora) ensemble in Podhradí is a significant late Baroque regional sculptural work by an unknown artist and is listed as an immovable cultural monument in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments. The Boží muka on the southern slopes of Veliš in Podhradí are among the oldest monuments of this type in the region.

The Veliš archaeological site preserves the ruins of a castle on a prominent basalt hill near Jičín. Parts of the fortification, the remains of two buildings and a very deep well have survived among the ruins of Veliš Castle.

The Baroque granary in Vokšice dates from 1700 and was built based on a design by J. B. Mathey. The château in Vokšice is originally Baroque; in 1660 it was described as new and it was remodelled in the 19th and 20th centuries.

International cycle route No. 14 (Berlin–Prague) connects Jičín with Dětenice via Podhradí and Veliš.
