Culture and History

Podůlší features several tangible traces of culture and history. In Dolní Podůlší stands a statue of the Holy Trinity, which is considered an important cultural monument. The Podůlší theatre curtain is also one of the protected historical artifacts: it was restored and declared a cultural monument in 1994.

The curtain from 1927 depicts the municipality with Brada, a hill and a small church in the background. It also features a portrait of Svatopluk Čech, the patron of the theatre association. This historic object thus combines a view of the locality, a landscape motif and the history of the association in a single image.

Another chapter in the locality’s history is the Battle of Podůlší on 29 June 1866. The Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 48 and units of the Austrian Poschacher Brigade in particular faced each other. The formations mentioned included the II Battalion and three companies of the Imperial and Royal 34th Infantry Regiment, as well as one company of the Imperial 30th Infantry Regiment.

Landscape and Location

Podůlší lies on the eastern side of Brada Hill. The road from Jičín to Turnov divides the locality into Horní Podůlší and Dolní Podůlší.

Přivýšina and Tábor are located in the immediate surroundings. Both are named landscape features and are recorded as mountains. Střelečská hůra lies in the vicinity of Podůlší and is likewise considered a named landscape feature and recorded as a mountain. The wider regional surroundings also include Maxinec (MLázovický chlum), which is likewise a named landscape feature and recorded as a mountain.

Educational Trail and Cycling Route

The “Battle of Jičín” educational trail passes through Podůlší. It is 29 km long and includes 22 stops with 26 information panels. The route links the locality with the historical theme, while cycling route No. 4016 also passes through Podůlší.

For an educational trail with designated stops, the individual stages, available time and current trail conditions are part of the practical preparation. Before setting out, cyclists should check the current route and any possible time-related or weather-related notices.

Sports Field and Active Days

The multifunctional sports field in Podůlší can be used for tennis, volleyball, nohejbal, handball, small-sided football, floorball, basketball and badminton. Reservations can be made for periods of at least 60 and at most 180 minutes. The wide range of sports therefore extends from racket and ball sports to team games.

If you are planning to use the sports field, it is worth checking the current reservation periods before your travel date. The specific time period is crucial for planning the day, although the various sports do not all require the same schedule.
