Dětenice seems like a place where history is not only embedded in its walls, but is also brewed, eaten and performed.

History and culture

Dětenice Castle originated from a 13th-century fortress, was initially transformed into a Renaissance chateau and acquired its present late Baroque appearance between 1762 and 1765. The tour of Dětenice Chateau includes a collection of around 350 weapons belonging to the Knights of Malta, most of them from the Thirty Years’ War.

The Neo-Gothic Chapel of St John of Nepomuk in Osenice dates from 1881.

Nature

The Dětenice chateau park covers four hectares. Rare and noteworthy trees and shrubs grow there, and it also contains a series of sculptures in the Classicist Baroque style. The Viničky educational trail begins in Dětenice.

Cuisine

During a tour of the Dětenice brewery, visitors can see how Dětenice beer is made according to the original 18th-century recipe and using traditional ingredients. On the brewery tour, visitors can taste light and dark Dětenice beer.

The Dětenice Medieval Tavern serves medieval specialities prepared over an open fire and eaten with the hands. The historical atmosphere includes vaulted stone ceilings, wooden tables and benches, candlelight and period music.

Events

Jousting tournaments take place during the season at the tournament grounds of Dětenice Chateau. The venue for the jousting tournaments in Dětenice has a covered grandstand; the performances take place in all weather conditions.

The programme at the Dětenice Medieval Tavern includes a fakir with a snake, a fire show, fights between heavily armoured fighters, swordsmen, female dancers and beggars.
