History and culture

Brada-Rybníček is closely connected with the history of Brada Castle: it was founded in the 13th century; today, only minor remains survive. At the eastern edge of the Brada Castle grounds, there is a ditch with a rampart in front of it.

A battle of the Austro-Prussian War took place in the cadastral area of Brada-Rybníček on 29 June 1866. The memorial monuments commemorating the 1866 battle near Brada-Rybníček were reconstructed and ceremonially unveiled at a commemorative event.

Among the preserved cultural landmarks is the early Gothic Church of St Bartholomew. It is very well preserved and is one of the oldest cultural monuments in the Jičín District. Rumcajs's Cave also features a fairytale-like interior design associated with Rumcajs, Manka and Cipísek.

Landscape and views

Since 2002, most of the cadastral area of Brada-Rybníček has been located in the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area. At the summit of Vrch Brada, there is a well-maintained rest area with benches and extensive views of the surrounding landscape.

In addition, the summit of Vrch Brada features boards with labelled panoramic photographs of the view.

Marked trails

The ruins of Brada Castle can be reached via the blue-marked hiking trail towards Jičín – Prachovské skály. The location can also be incorporated into a marked cycling route: Cycle Route No. 4365 runs through Brada and Rybníček and forms an approximately 23 km circular route north of Jičín.

The seventh day of the Zlatá stezka Českého ráje follows a 26.5 km route from Jičín via Brada and Kbelnice back to Jičín.
