Kozojedy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kozojedy is home to an archaeological site with a fortress and the village centre, historical traces, an educational trail and a traditional paper nativity scene exhibition. The Kozojedy archaeological site with a fortress and the village centre is located at the southwestern edge of the built-up area near the brickworks.

Culture

The fortress in Kozojedy was mentioned in 1375 and burned down by the Hussites in 1423. Its history and location have been preserved through recognisable terrain features south of the church.

The Church of Saint Wenceslas is a distinctly Gothic-looking wooden building; the wooden bell tower dates from 1689. The church is normally not open to the public.

A traditional exhibition of paper nativity scenes is held in the former school in Kozojedy near Žlunice. It comprises more than 350 exhibits, including nativity scenes from Austria, Germany and Italy. The exhibition includes a personal explanation of the history of nativity scenes as well as further information.

Trails and Activities

The Češov–Vysoké Veselí educational trail passes through Kozojedy. It is an 18 km circular route with branch paths that starts and ends at Mírové náměstí in Vysoké Veselí. Twelve stations with information panels accompany the route. The Stezka Češov Veselí association maintains and enhances the educational trail, which is suitable for visits throughout the year.

The Putování po stezce Češov–Vysoké Veselí takes place every year on the third Saturday in July. Kozojedy is one of the checkpoints on the Putování. In the 2026 edition, the routes range from 5 to 23 km; using a bicycle is recommended, while walking and horseback riding, among other activities, are also permitted.

Geographical Setting

In the wider regional surroundings of Kozojedy, the Češovské valy fortifications extend for more than 2 km and have five entrances. Also located in the wider regional surroundings is the early medieval and prehistoric hillfort Češovské valy. Its preserved ramparts are the highest in Bohemia; the hillfort was inhabited and used from prehistoric times through the Middle Ages.

Nature

Žlunické polesí is a natural monument established to preserve a forest complex with protected and endangered plant species.
