Branov: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Branov is associated with the extensive canyon of the Berounka, which is considered largely undeveloped and close to nature. In Luh near Branov, the ferryman Karel Prošek’s cottage houses a memorial hall for the writer Ota Pavel.

Culture and History

Zpropadený zámek in Branov is a significant archaeological site. The complex is classified as a hilltop settlement, hillfort and fortification, and is also a three-part hillfort with a total length of 220 metres. Two transverse ramparts reach a height of 2 to 2.5 metres.

The ruins of Týřov are located near Branov. The U Svatého Petra church is also in the vicinity. In the wider regional surroundings of Branov are Karlštejn Castle and the Zřícenina Pravda ruins.

Nature and Landscape

The U Eremita Nature Reserve consists predominantly of rubble forest with a high proportion of yew trees. An active tuff deposit is located near a spring in the middle of the area.

Holý vrch is a mountain in the vicinity of Branov. Štulec [Branov] is a hill in the immediate surroundings. In the wider regional surroundings of Branov are the mountains Tuchonín and Loustín.

Paths and Activities

The U Eremita educational trail begins on the road from Roztoky to Karlova Ves, at the confluence of the Klucná stream and the Berounka near a vaulted bridge. The educational trail, intended for pedestrians, is 1 kilometre long and classified as moderately difficult; it introduces visitors to 35 tree and shrub species characteristic of the region.

Branov is also mentioned in connection with water sports, particularly boating, because of the Berounka. The Pochod krajem Oty Pavla was announced again as its 41st edition.
