Krakovec: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The construction of Krakovec Castle is dated to 1381. It is one of the few transitional types between a castle and a chateau built during the reign of Wenceslaus IV.

Architecture and History

Krakovec Castle stands on a low spur of land above the confluence of two streams. The surviving chapel contains a pentagonal presbytery in the form of a large projecting bay window.

In 1414, Jan Lefl z Lažan granted Jan Hus refuge at Krakovec. In autumn 1414, Jan Hus set out from Krakovec for Constance.

Sightseeing and Film Location

The entire grounds of the Krakovec castle ruins are open for individual or guided tours. The castle was also a filming location for the children's film musical “Ať žijí duchové” and individual scenes from the fairy tale “Princ a Večernice”.

Krakovec is home to a monument to Master Jan Hus, created by sculptor Milan Vácha and architect Rostislav Říha and erected in 2011.

Landscape and Trails

The registered significant landscape feature of Nový Dvůr comprises a shallow valley of a spring branch of the Krakovský potok and two unmaintained ponds.

The nearest railway station to Krakovec is Všesulov; from there, a route of about 5 km continues on foot along a tourist-marked trail. Marked hiking trails of the Klub českých turistů lead to Krakovec. The “Rakovnický okruh na hrad Krakovec” circuit takes about 3.5 hours by vehicle alone.
