Senomaty lies west of the town of Rakovník in the floodplain of the Rakovnický potok stream, which rises in the forests of the Jesenicko region. The earliest written record of the village dates from 1233; by 1319 at the latest, Senomaty had acquired some town privileges.
History and Sacred Buildings
The Gothic Church of St Lawrence was probably founded by the Teutonic Order. Specific records about the church date from the first half of the 14th century. It acquired its present appearance through renovation around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The wooden bell tower is at least three hundred years old and was already standing before 1620.
Cultural Monuments and Memorial Sites
The cemetery in Senomaty contains a group of memorial graves. The grave of the 19th-century Czech poet František Chládek, who came from Hředle, is also located there. Near the bridge over the Rakovnický potok stands a statue of Saint Jude Thaddeus on a pedestal bearing the year 1722. On the road to Rakovník, on the right-hand side, stands a finely carved statue of Saint Procopius on a pedestal bearing the year 1743.
The timber-framed house at 66 V Chaloupkách Street is a protected cultural monument dating from the mid-19th century.
Hiking and Transport Connections
The “Putování za duhou” hiking event has been a tradition in Senomaty since 2007 and takes place in early May. Senomaty is served by urban and regional bus routes as well as by the Rakovník–Bečov nad Teplou railway line.
Cycling Route and Jesenicko Nature Park
Marked cycling route No. 351 passes through Senomaty and runs from Rakovník via Jesenice and Rabštejn nad Střelou to Pšov. The section of cycling route 351 from Rakovník to Senomaty takes the form of an educational cycle trail with nature interpretation panels. In the village of Oráčov, 8 kilometres from Senomaty, cycling route 351 enters Jesenicko Nature Park, a landscape with preserved nature, ponds and numerous historical monuments.
