Sadská: Apartments and Holiday Homes

The present appearance of the originally Gothic Church of St. Apollinaris in Sadská was created through a Baroque-Gothic renovation carried out between 1737 and 1739.

Culture and History

The historic buildings include the Baroque bell tower Zvonice u náměstí in Sadská, which was built in 1691 as an original clock tower. The Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows was originally built at a healing spring between 1714 and 1721; its present appearance is Baroque, and it is listed as a cultural monument. Also listed as a cultural monument is the Pomník O. G. Paroubka, a tomb created in 1910 by Jan Štursa in the Art Nouveau style.

The exhibition at the Městské muzeum Sadská covers the history of the town from archaeological excavations to the present day. It was prepared by the Polabské muzeum in Poděbrady. Since 2005, the Klicperovy divadelní dny have had the status of a regional theatre showcase; the event was revived in 1999.

The Hasičská expozice in Sadská commemorates the deeds of Czech firefighters who gave their lives for the freedom of the people and the preservation of the ideal „For the help of one's fellow man“.

Nature and Landscape

Skála lies in the western part of the inselberg of Sadská. It is registered as a significant landscape feature and has ecological, landscape and geomorphological importance. At the same time, Skála in Sadská is an important fossil site dating from the Middle Turonian, with a very rich occurrence of fossilised marine animals.

Jezero was created by sand extraction, which began in 1972 and ended in 1992. Surrounded by pine forests, Jezero offers clean water and opportunities for swimming. The so-called Old Labe, a cut-off arm of the Elbe, lies in the immediate vicinity of Jezero; it is registered and protected as a significant landscape feature and is home to wetland communities as well as rare protected animal and plant species.

In the wider regional surroundings of Sadská lie the Kersko–Bory forests, which have been protected as the Kersko–Bory Nature Park since 2010.

Exploring Sadská

The „In the Footsteps of Our Ancestors“ educational trail leads through Sadská and begins at Palacký Square. It comprises 20 stone markers at historic or natural points and forms a circular route that can be walked or cycled; a map is available.

Sadská has good bus and rail connections to Prague, Nymburk and Kolín.
