Kněžičky: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
The Žehuňský rybník–Obora Kněžičky Bird Protection Area safeguards the habitats of the Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus) and the Spotted Crake (Porzana porzana). The area is significant as a breeding site for 131 bird species (1996–2002) and as a migration area for waterbirds and birds of prey.
Nature
The Kněžičky National Nature Reserve covers 89 ha and protects thermophilous oak forests with a considerable proportion of old trees compared with other areas. Thermophilous steppe and forest-steppe communities are also found there. The Kopičácký rybník National Nature Monument is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Kněžičky and comprises wetland habitats with peat and purple moor-grass meadows, reed beds, and aquatic communities. The populations of rare and endangered plants and animals found there include, in particular, Sesleria uliginosa, Potamogeton gramineus and Rana ridibunda.
History and Culture
Obora Kněžičky comprises a complex of buildings from the former royal game preserve, set amid an 850-hectare enclosed forest complex. Dr. Pio Kinský dal Borgo operates the Hotel Obora with a restaurant in the Obora Kněžičky area. Traditional pilgrimages continue to be celebrated in Kněžičky. In addition, forest ponds serving as retention basins have been restored in Obora Kněžičky.
Water and Access Routes
The municipal water reservoir, covering an area of 3,700 m², is used for swimming and fishing. The Kněžičky National Nature Reserve is accessible exclusively via public roads and forest paths.
