Culture and History

Obruby is home to the listed building House No. 25. A local tradition is Easter rattling: from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday, children walk through the village rattling wooden rattles.

Based on archaeological finds, prehistoric settlement in Obruby is attributed to the Celts.

Nature and Landscape

The Český ráj Protected Landscape Area, which is associated with Obruby, was designated the Czech Republic’s first protected landscape area on 1 March 1955. Part of Obruby lies within the so-called affected area of the Český ráj Protected Landscape Area.

There are springs in the Pteč grove, and the Pteč stream flows through the Pteč grove. A small marsh meadow lies along the stream, where the protected, yellow-flowering plant Upolíny evropské used to be common. There are also springs in the nearby forests.

Obruby is located on road I/16 in the direction of Jičín.

Events

The Summer Cinema took place on 3 August 2024 and 16 August 2025 at the sports field in Obruby. The Christmas Tree Lighting event took place on 1 December 2024 in front of the fire station in Obruby; on 6 December 2025, it was combined there with a St. Nicholas celebration.
