Mužský is located on a plateau of the rocky Mužský massif in the Jičín Uplands. The village, which is of medieval origin, was first mentioned in 1400 and is protected as a village monument reservation under Government Regulation No. 127/1995 Coll.

Culture and History

The protected ensemble in Mužský consists mainly of single-storey log houses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. At the summit of Mužský stands a monument commemorating the bravery of the soldiers who fell in a battle fought there in 1866 during the Austro-Prussian War. This monument offers an excellent panoramic view of the Czech landscape.

Near Mužský, on the edge of the rocky Mužský massif, lie the ruins of the medieval Valečov Castle, which is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. It can be visited independently or with a guide.

Near Mužský lies Drábské světničky, a rock castle on the Hrada plateau, which is dominated by Mužský. In the vicinity of Mužský, the rock fortress originally consisted of approximately 30 chambers carved into seven- to 15-metre-high rock blocks.

Landscape

Mužský was formed by volcanic activity; its basalt rock bears witness to ancient geological processes. The lateral slopes of Mužský form the well-known Příhrazské skalní město rock city. In the vicinity of Mužský, the Příhrazské skály Nature Reserve encompasses a significant complex of rocks as well as natural and near-natural woodland communities.

Trails

The Valečov–Mužský route runs through Příhrazské skály, a nature reserve with a complex of rock cities. A marked hiking trail leads from Příhrazy via the red trail and then the green trail to Mužský; the route is approximately 3.5 km long. A shorter green hiking trail leads from the Na Krásné vyhlídce restaurant to Mužský in approximately 1 km. On the Valečov–Mužský route, you return to the trail junction below Mužský and then continue to the car park and on to the Skalka trail junction.

Other places: Husí Lhota, Dobsin, Rabakov, Chotětov, Charvatce, Chudíř, Brezina, Nepřevázka.
