Nový Knín: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nový Knín brings its history of gold, the town fire and its squares to life: the Muzeum zlata Nový Knín is located in a historic 15th-century building on Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad and also serves as a tourist information centre.

Culture

The Kostel sv. Mikuláše church was rebuilt in 1652 after the former church was completely destroyed by fire in the town fire of 1537. The stone-built church houses a crypt containing the remains of the town's primators. Also on Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad is a fountain dating from 1837, made of blocks of stone. Several benches next to the fountain are sheltered from the sun in summer by the shade of three old lime trees.

Nature

The Hadí řekou – údolí Kocáby route runs through a large part of the most beautiful section of the Kocába between Nový Knín and Štěchovice. The Kocába and its immediate surroundings were known for centuries as a gold-bearing area. The area known as the Štěchovický zlatonosný revír extends between Nový Knín and Štěchovice and reaches as far as Třebenice.

History

The Naučná stezka Nový Knín a okolí trail begins at the Muzeum zlata in Nový Knín. It has ten information boards, passes former mine adits and provides information about the history of gold mining and gold extraction in the area around Kocába and Nový Knín.

Trails

A yellow-marked hiking route passes through Nový Knín and ends at Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad; it is approximately 16 km long. The Naučná stezka Kozí Hory – Libčice trail has eight stations and passes former mine adits and mining subsidence areas. According to an official route specification, the Naučná stezka Kozí Hory – Libčice trail is 18.6 km long.
