Kounov: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
On Rovina hill are the Kounovské kamenné řady: fourteen regular rows of boulders weighing up to several tonnes are located on a wooded upland at the border between the Louny and Rakovník districts, at an altitude of 526 metres. They were discovered in 1934 by local teacher Antonín Patejdl.
Culture and History
The exhibition on the Kounovské kamenné řady presents rare documents, including the first published article about the stone rows from 1934, the oldest known photograph of the rows from 1936, and drawings of their archaeological investigation from the 1970s.
Another historical landmark in the village is the Church of St Vitus in Kounov. Its presumably Romanesque nave is connected to a Gothic chancel dating from around 1400. The religious tradition also includes the Svatovojtěšská pouť, which takes place every year on the first Sunday after 23 April, the feast day of Saint Adalbert.
Natural history is also connected with Kounov: Trissolepis kounoviensis is considered the best-known representative of the Palaeozoic fauna of Kounov. It was discovered in the 1870s by Antonín Frič.
The Church of U Svatého Gotharda is located in the vicinity of Kounov. The wider regional area is also home to the Svatý Prokop monument and the ruins of Týřov.
Paths and Discoveries
The Chapel of svatého Vojtěcha is located about 1.5 kilometres north of Kounov on a marked hiking trail from Kounov to the Kounovské kamenné řady. There is a covered rest area with benches and tables by the chapel. As an important pilgrimage site, it lies at the intersection of the Rakovnicko, Žatecko and Lounsko regions.
The Špičák educational trail route begins at the exhibition on the Kounovské kamenné řady in Kounov. The Naučná stezka Kounovské kamenné řady has existed since 1987, has eleven stations and is 4.3 kilometres long.
Nature and Landscape
In the immediate vicinity of Kounov are the Zřícenina Pravda ruins and the Pískový vrch [Kounov] hill. The Džbán and Loustín mountains are also located nearby. The Pozdeňský les [Mšec] mountain lies in the wider regional area around Kounov.
