Žďár: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The rock city area of Příhrazské skály consists of 178 rock towers and peripheral massifs. The sandstone formations attract climbers; one of the distinctive rocks is Kobylí hlava.

Nature

The V dubech natural monument is located in the cadastral area of Žehrov in the municipality of Žďár. It protects marshy hay meadows, spring areas and wet alder forests containing particularly protected plant species.

Střelečská hůra is a mountain in the vicinity of Žďár. The hills in the immediate surrounding area include Doubrava [Olešnice u Turnova], Skuhrava [Branžež] and Vyhlídka na Bezděz [Olešnice u Turnova].

Trails

The Zlatá stezka Českého ráje long-distance hiking trail runs through Žďár. A hiking and cycling excursion route leads via Skokovy and Olešnice to Věžický rybník and on to Vidlák through the Žehrovka valley.

The route through the Žehrovka valley passes several mills; Pleskotský mlýn is named as the best known. The municipality of Žďár describes the landscape as suitable for cycling.

History and Culture

Construction of the chapel in Žďár began on 2 June 1903; it was completed in July 1904. Historically, Žďár was primarily an agricultural municipality. Because of the linden-lined road, the village was often called “Žďár lipový”.

The beginnings of settlement in this region date back to the medieval colonisation of the 13th century. Valdštejn is a church in the vicinity of Žďár. Kaple Nejsvětější Trojice is a church in the wider regional area around Žďár.
