Jabkenice: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Jabkenice is connected with the history of Bedřich Smetana: the Bedřich Smetana Memorial is located in the Jabkenická Forester's Lodge. The deaf Bedřich Smetana lived there with his family from 1875 to 1884. The exhibition focuses on his study and the family salon.

Culture and History

The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary in Jabkenice is an early Gothic brick sacred building and has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1958. East of the church is a 15th-century bell tower, one of the oldest surviving bell towers in the Czech Republic.

In the immediate vicinity of Jabkenice are the hills of Hrádek, Svatojiřský les near Pěčice, and Na Vrchu near Smilovice u Luštěnic. In the wider regional surroundings of Jabkenice are U Borku hill near Záhornice u Městce Králové and Valdštejn Church.

In Smetana's Footsteps

Jahody se Smetanou is a route of the outdoor game Skryté příběhy in Jabkenice. The route is 4.5 km long, includes eight stations, and takes about 1.5 hours. It leads from the municipality of Jabkenice into the forest along a path tracing Bedřich Smetana's usual walk. After a short detour to the entrance of the Jabkenická Game Reserve, it returns to the municipality and ends at the Bedřich Smetana Museum.

Events

For more than a hundred years, Jabkenice has hosted the Smetanovy Jabkenice festival for the general public. Selected programmes of Smetanovy Jabkenice are interpreted into Czech Sign Language.
