Řitonice: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

St. Stephen’s Church stands in Řitonice. The originally Gothic building from the second half of the 14th century was rebuilt in Baroque style in 1669 and 1709. A presbytery with a ribbed vault has been preserved from the Gothic building. As an immovable cultural monument, the church is listed in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 26819/2-1723.

Culture and history

St. Stephen’s Church underwent extensive restoration, was repainted and given new furnishings in 1897–1898. The church contains recently restored Renaissance tombstones; one of them is also set into the exterior wall. Another historical connection is provided by the world-famous singer Ema Destinová, who supported the church organ in 1912.

In addition to the church, the protected ensemble includes the bell tower, two gate pillars, the staircase and the enclosed plots of the site. In the south-west corner of the abandoned cemetery, opposite the façade of St. Stephen’s Church, stands a low, timber-clad bell tower.

Chronicle and tours

The ongoing chronicle of the municipality of Řitonice has been maintained continuously since 1921. The municipality also allows access to the first chronicle book, which covers the years 1921–1980. For tourists and visitors, St. Stephen’s Church is accessible by prior arrangement with a priest or Josef Pavlíček.

Benefit concerts are regularly held in St. Stephen’s Church and are well attended by the public. The admission proceeds are used for restoration work.

Cycling tours

A 27.5 km circular cycling route between Domousnice and Skyšice passes through Řitonice. Another 35 km circular cycling route starting from Dolní Bousov is described as moderately demanding. It runs partly along field and forest paths and partly along lightly trafficked roads.
