Chorušice is located 18 kilometres northeast of Mělník, at the transition between the Polabí Plain, the undulating landscape of the Dolnojizerská tabule uplands and the Kokořínsko region, which gives way to a more deeply dissected landscape. The village’s most important landmark is the Baroque pilgrimage and Roman Catholic deanery Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Culture and History
The present Baroque building of the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was built between 1714 and 1716, replacing an older church that was in a severely dilapidated condition. At the centre of the presbytery is a miraculous image of Our Lady of Sorrows.
A Baroque chapel built in 1716 stands on the village square in Chorušice. Its decoration is connected with that of the deanery church. The eastern niche, facing the church, depicts Our Lady of Sorrows, while the western niche depicts Saint John of Nepomuk.
The Staré krásnosti Museum specialises in the history of toys, dolls and prams; it also includes a diabetes café.
Landscape
The hills of U Záhájí and Za Mučovem are located near Chorušice, close to Mělnické Vtelno-Radouň.
In the wider regional surroundings of Chorušice are Starý Berštejn as a ruin, Mount Nedvězí in Dubá-Dražejov and Mount Hořice, Zámek Ostrov as a castle, and U Svatého Vojtěcha and Svatý Jiří as churches.
