Veltrusy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Construction of Veltrusy Chateau began in 1704 as a generously designed Baroque residence.

Culture

Veltrusy Chateau was declared a national cultural monument in 2002. In its original form, it is associated with the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi.

Veltrusy is also home to the protected religious building Kostel Narození sv. Jana Křtitele. It has a Gothic presbytery and a preserved fragment of a figurative wall painting from the second half of the 14th century.

Nature

Veltrusy Park is one of the five oldest landscape parks in the Czech Republic. It is freely accessible from dawn to dusk.

Fallow deer have been kept in the Veltrusy game reserve since 1802. The Veltrusy nature monument protects the hermit beetle (Osmoderma barnabita) and the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), including their habitats.

Activities

The guided cycling tour through Veltrusy Park leads to small park pavilions, various bridges over the Mlýnský potok, floodplain forest, and views of fields, meadows, and an orchard. The Six Bridges hiking route in Veltrusy follows the Mlýnská strouha past bridges and park pavilions.

The artificial Veltrusy slalom channel uses 350 metres of a former log-driving passage at the Miřejovice weir.

Transport

Direct bus routes 370 and 372 run via the Veltrusy stop from Prague-Kobylisy to Kralupy nad Vltavou and back.
