Vrbno: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vrbno was first mentioned in writing in 1241 and is designated as a protected village monument zone.

Culture and History

The Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross was originally a Romanesque building from the 12th century and was later remodelled in the Gothic and Baroque styles. The protected rural estate No. 21 comprises a residential building, a barn or granary, a stable, a coach house, an enclosing wall and the associated plot of land. It lies southeast of the church on the edge of Vrbno’s historic centre and near a former course of the Vltava. There is also a row cemetery in the area of the church, which had already served at least partially as a church cemetery.

The area’s earlier ownership history is also part of its character: Vrbno was divided in the past. One part belonged to the Mělník estate, while another belonged to the Vladik family of Mléčeks and later to the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star.

Water and Nature

The Vrbenské tůně comprise part of an old arm of the Vltava and a system of pools on the left bank of the river along the southern and southeastern edge of Vrbno; they cover 43.66 hectares. They form a tranquil natural area and fishing ground and provide a refuge for birds and amphibians.

Routes and Educational Trail

Several named routes provide orientation around Vrbno for cycling and walking tours. The Vrbno–Hořín section forms part of Cycle Route 7. The Vrbno–Mělník–Horní Počaply cycle route runs along asphalt and paved paths. Hořín is connected to the Elbe Cycle Route (Labská stezka) and is presented as a destination for walking and cycling tours.

The Vrbno–Zelčín educational trail is located near ZOOPARK Zelčín, is 3.5 km long and has 13 stations.
