Medonosy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Medonosy lies in a deep valley of the Liběchovka River, which cuts between the hills of the Ralská pahorkatina uplands, in the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area.

Landscape and Nature

The surroundings of Medonosy are characterised by remarkable diversity. More than one hundred plant species are endangered and require protection. The ecosystem is home to rare species of insects, birds and aquatic animals. Mountain and submontane plants, mostly moisture-loving species, grow in the shady gorges, while drought- and heat-loving plants can be found on the sunlit uplands.

Architectural Heritage

Fifty cottages in Medonosy have preserved their original appearance and period-typical architectural layout almost unchanged. The houses are predominantly two-storey log or half-timbered buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. A rural house in Medonosy is a predominantly two-storey log building with a two-part floor plan, an asymmetrical gable roof, a recessed gallery, a supporting structure on the ground floor and a short farm section with a half-timbered chamber on the upper floor; its core dates from the late 18th century.

In Medonosy, 31 buildings are listed nationwide as protected monuments. The Baroque Church of Saint James dates from 1712 and stands on Gothic foundations. Since 1966, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Special Features

At the entrance to Medonosy from the direction of Mělník stands a sandstone statue of Saint Ludmila dating from the mid-19th century. Knížecí studánka is covered by a Classicist shelter structure and is a generously flowing spring with good drinking water. A mill installation dated 1788 has been preserved in the watermill in Medonosy, house number 1. The niche chapel has been reconstructed and is maintained.
