The complex of the Kostel Stětí sv. Jana Křtitele church is situated on elevated ground above the Labe River in Dolní Beřkovice and is surrounded by a terrace wall. The single-nave church has a semicircular-ended, extended presbytery and a prismatic tower.

Culture and History

Dolní Beřkovice Chateau dates from 1606 and was rebuilt in 1853 into its present form. The church in Vliněves dates from 1866 and stands on the site of a Romanesque central-plan church.

The Chapel of St Joseph is part of the public cemetery in the cadastral district of Vliněves, within the municipality of Dolní Beřkovice. The protected ensemble “hřbitov s kaplí sv. Josefa” comprises a rectangular cemetery with a small Neo-Romanesque chapel on the axis of the main entrance. The public cemetery in Dolní Beřkovice is open to the public; there are no set opening hours, and it is not locked.

Landscape

The Dolní Beřkovice ship lock has a large chamber measuring 200.0 × 22.0 metres and a small chamber measuring 85.0 × 11.0 metres.

On the Way

The cycle path from Horní Počaply to Zelčín runs along the banks of the Elbe through Dolní Beřkovice. The Dolní Beřkovice–Račice cycle path has a smooth asphalt surface and a flat elevation profile.

Local Life

The Na Knížecí inn remains a meeting place and resting spot for tourists and cyclists to this day. The Zemský vinařský spolek pro Království české was founded there in 1881.
