Želízy: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Želízy presents cultural and natural attractions in very tangible forms. A commemorative plaque recalls Franz Kafka’s stays at the spa in November and December 1918, from January to March and in November 1919, and in August and September 1923.

Culture

The Čertovy hlavy are two sandstone sculptures, each approximately nine metres high, which the sculptor Václav Levý carved into the rocks between 1841 and 1846. From the primary school building in Želízy, they are freely accessible via the blue-marked hiking trail.

The Harfenice rock relief, depicting a woman with a harp, is located on the Okruh Václava Levého trail. A sandstone sphinx is also located on the Okruh Václava Levého. At the Klácelka Cave there are large-scale reliefs of Jan Žižka and Prokop Holý, as well as dwarfs forging weapons for the knights of Blaník.

Nature

At 175 metres above sea level, the Liběchovka floodplain in Želízy is the lowest point of the Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area. The Liběchovka wetland system became part of the internationally important Ramsar site “Mokřady Liběchovky a Pšovky” in 1997.

Water

Koupaliště Želízy has a 20 × 40-metre pool, a separate paddling pool and a children’s water slide. It is family-oriented and supplied from its own well with drinking water. Facilities include toilets, showers and changing rooms.

Trails

The Cyklistický okruh ze Želíz na Kokořínsku is a cycling route. The Okruh Václava Levého runs via Tupadly along the Liběchovka stream to Želízy.
