Čečelice showcases a combination of architectural and local history, landscape features, trails, and local events. The village’s various facets range from historic churches and monuments to waterways, circular trails, and regional connections.

Culture and History

The Romanesque Church of St. Havel in Čečelice preserves a tribune and a tower with battlements dating from its Romanesque construction period. The church was rebuilt between 1694 and 1711. The chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands at the intersection of Dlážděná and U Kapličky streets and dates from 1890.

The monuments also provide historical points of reference in the village. The monument to Jan Hus stands in the middle of the village square in front of a former inn. The monument to Karel Havlíček Borovský in Čečelice was ceremonially unveiled on 28 August 1910. Until the first half of the 17th century, Čečelice was an independent knightly estate.

Landscape and Location

Čečelice lies in the Mělník Basin at an elevation of 180 to 200 metres above sea level. The Košátecký Stream flows year-round through the western part of the cadastral territory of Čečelice. In the direction of Konětopy, there is a spring with a discharge of 30 litres per minute and a constant temperature.

The boundary of the Kokořínsko–Máchův kraj Protected Landscape Area lies 10 km north of Čečelice. This also places the village’s surrounding landscape clearly within its geographical context.

Trails and Circular Walks

The renovated Všetatská pěšina is intended for pedestrians and trekking bicycles. The Čečelská naučná stezka educational trail forms an easy circular route of approximately 1 km, beginning and ending in the village centre by the church. It has 10 stations with information boards about history and local geography.

Route No. 8241 also passes through Čečelice, running from Liblice via Čečelice to U Beranovy rokle.

Connections and Village Centre

Railway line No. 070 between Prague and Turnov runs through the cadastral territory of Čečelice. Outside the cadastral territory of Čečelice, railway stops are located in Byšice, 1.8 km away, and Všetaty, 3 km away.

Public parking areas are located on the village square around the Church of St. Havel and below the municipal office.

Events

The Čečelice Volunteer Fire Brigade regularly organises the public event Čečelská lávka. The Čečelská Poupata group takes part in the Staročeské máje celebrations in Čečelice with processions, singing, and dancing.
