Dolany: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes
Dolany is situated on the left bank of the Vltava, where the rocky Vltava Valley ends and the flatter landscape towards the confluence of the Vltava and Elbe begins. In front of the village, at the point where the Vltava divides, stands the Dolany weir with a power station. Here, the river landscape, hydraulic engineering and the history of a Bohemian village come together.
Water and Landscape
The Dolany hydraulic structure was built in 1901 as part of the Vltava waterway between Prague and Mělník. Originally, it consisted of an overflow weir and a sluice-gate weir with folding weir arms, as well as a lock chamber in a lock canal on the right bank of the Vltava. The Libčice hydroelectric power station uses the hydroelectric potential of Dolany’s movable weir.
Shipping is also part of this waterway environment. At the upper and lower approach areas of the Dolánky lock, leisure boats can safely moor along the bank at the designated waiting berths while waiting to pass through the lock.
Culture and History
Dolany Fortress is first mentioned in 1406. In Debrno stands the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas, dating from 1674 and protected as a cultural monument.
A more recent tradition is the “Dolany v Dolanech” gathering. Since 2001, it has been a recurring meeting of municipalities named Dolany, where people celebrate together and take part in sports over a weekend. In 2025, Dolany hosted the 22nd edition of this event.
Sports and Trails
The TJ Sokol Dolany complex includes a football pitch, two tennis courts and a floodlit multi-purpose artificial-turf field. The field is used primarily for small-sided football, tennis, nohejbal and volleyball.
A railway stop as well as cycling and hiking trails are also located in the immediate vicinity of the TJ Sokol Dolany complex. The “Pochod Josefa Kloučka” is a recurring long-distance hiking event in Dolany, which can also be completed by bicycle.
