Kostelec Nad Labem: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Kostelec nad Labem is a former royal town of medieval origin, situated at a ford across the Elbe. Its historic part is designated as a heritage zone.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Martin was built in the second half of the 13th century, subsequently rebuilt in the Late Gothic style and given Baroque features. It was restored in 1894; at the same time, the church retains Gothic elements. St. Martin is a cemetery church and originally served as a parish church.

St. Vitus is a three-nave Gothic religious building with a polygonal presbytery and was rebuilt in the Renaissance style in the 16th century.

The Jewish cemetery was founded in 1594 on the eastern bank of the Martinský Stream in the suburb of Písek. It preserves numerous gravestones of significant art-historical value, including many from the last quarter of the 19th century.

Nature and Landscape

The Polabí u Kostelce nature monument is an exceptionally well-preserved river floodplain with a characteristic mosaic structure of floodplain forests, meadows, bodies of water and wetlands, as well as numerous rare plant and animal species.

In the northern part of the Kostelec nad Labem area, Staré Labe has the character of a floodplain forest.

Things to Do

A modernized, ten-kilometre section of the Labská stezka runs between Kostelec nad Labem and Tuhaň. The section can be used by cyclists and pedestrians on a paved asphalt path.

The Městský informační okruh is a short educational trail that presents the history of Kostelec nad Labem. It comprises six stops with information boards.
