Šapjane railway station is recognised as a cultural asset in the county's spatial plan. Above the railway station, Pećina Loza I is protected as a prehistoric cave. Also above Šapjane, Gradina is recognised as a prehistoric fortified settlement.

The Church of Saint Anthony in Šapjane is also recognised as a recorded cultural asset. The stone cistern crown of Šapjane is listed as registered movable cultural property.

Railway and Local History

The Pivka–Rijeka railway branch was built in 1873; Šapjane was one of its stations. The Rijeka–Šapjane–Ilirska Bistrica railway line is designated as a railway line of national importance.

Festivals

The Gradina Šapjane festival programme began with a votive mass and continued with a raffle, games, local music, and food and drinks. The festival had historical and votive significance for the local population and had been held since 1946. The 69th edition took place in 2015.
