Zvoneće: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In Zvoneće, terraced cultural landscapes, winemaking traditions and inherited customs coexist. The Zvonejske njivi encompass an approximately 60-hectare landscape of terraced land parcels and are protected as a cultural monument. Historically, the area was a centre of winemaking; in 1994, the terraces were registered as an identified cultural monument. Jarbola is a traditionally cultivated indigenous grape variety associated with Zvoneća and protected as a grape variety in the Croatian Littoral subregion.

Nature

Lisina Forest Park extends across Zvoneća and Gornji Rukavac and has been protected as a significant landscape since 1998. In the wooded karst landscape of Lisina, the Vodice spring forms a small freshwater habitat. Lisina is also a junction of hiking traverses, including Gomila, Vodička Griža and Vodice.

Trails

Route 117 is a 30-kilometre circular cycling route with 560 metres of elevation gain through the protected landscape of the Zvonejske njivi. The route follows the old Žejane–Bukvina–Zvoneća road and then continues towards the terraces of the Zvonejske njivi above Perka.

Culture

In the central settlement area of Zvoneća stands the single-nave Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot, dating from the 19th century. The Zvonejski zvončari are among the local bell-ringer groups included on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Antonja, the main festival of Zvoneća, takes place on 17 January and marks the beginning of Carnival and the bell-ringer processions. For their traditional procession to Rukavac, the Zvonejski zvončari wear flower hats, sailor shirts, white trousers, sheepskins and three bells. On Shrove Tuesday, they also hold a less formal procession through Zvoneća in different attire.

Antonjica, held on 13 June, is Zvoneća’s most important summer festival and commemorates Saint Anthony of Padua. The annual event Mića zvončarska smotra is organised in Zvoneća by the association Udruga Zvonejski zvončari under the patronage of Općina Matulji.

Events and Culinary Delights

Since 2021, Jazz na Njivah has been held in the Zvonejske njivi; the most recent edition was the sixth. The well-maintained fields and vineyards of the Zvonejske njivi serve as a natural concert stage. OPG Ružić from Zvoneća contributes local jarbolica grapes to Jazz na Njivah.

The cycling tour Lipo j' vino pit! includes a Jarbola tasting at OPG Jarbola in Zvoneća.
