Culture and history

The parish church of Sant Gil Abad was built towards the end of the 18th century in the Baroque style with Aragonese influences. It has three naves, a transept and a frescoed dome.

Casa Guarner is a cultural centre where exhibitions, concerts, competitions and other events take place throughout the year. Casa de Lluís Guarner is an 18th-century manor house featuring traditional Valencian architecture, antiques, works of art and a significant library.

The restored birthplace of Alonso Sánchez Coello is located in the old town of Benifairó de les Valls, retains its original structure and has been open as a publicly accessible cultural space since 2009. Alonso Sánchez Coello was born in Benifairó de les Valls in 1531 and became a court painter to the kings of Spain.

Festivals and routes

Every year, around the first Sunday in September, Benifairó de les Valls celebrates a patron saint festival in honour of the Mare de Déu del Bon Succés and Sant Gil Abad.

The festivities include the Baixada of the Mare de Déu del Bon Succés from the Ermita to the church, followed by the Pujada in the opposite direction. Both are accompanied by traditional dances, dolçaines, tabalets and fireworks.

The Ermita de la Mare de Déu del Bon Succés is a single-nave religious building in the Valencian Baroque style, located on a small hill near the town. It may have been built in the 17th or 18th century and is reached via 189 steps.
