Villacorta – Red Villages, Trails and Religious Buildings

Villacorta is one of the so-called red villages. The red architectural coloring of Villacorta is associated with the high iron concentration in the local clay soils and native stones. The perception of the village therefore combines an established village character with an explanation based on the natural building materials. Landscape and Trails

The Camino de La Tejera reaches Villacorta through an area characterized by cultivated land. At the edge of Villacorta, the trail leads to the Molino de la Ferrería, which is now used as rural accommodation. From the Molino de la Ferrería, the Camino de La Tejera continues towards the Río Vadillo. The Iglesia de Santa Catalina is a religious building constructed on a Latin-cross floor plan and probably dates from the early 17th century.
